Finding Pa!

Everyone knows
How to raise a child
But no one knows
How to raise a father

A boy raising a boy
What's there to inherit?
A boy looking for Pa
How do you explain it?

Trousers wearing could differentiate
But mummy does that too
Maybe some rude hardness
But it crushes the boy
He does not hold
His hands could crush
He does not talk
His voice causes terror
He does not stick around
His business is calling
He just wants things done
He is busy doing it for them.

Where can boy find Pa?

THE OMNI PRESENT

I lived as if He was absent
Google Image
Living far off in a distant land.
In some space way way over there
Far from where I could reach Him
Out of this world
Somewhere in some space there,
Elsewhere

They taught me to call Him down
To create an atmosphere for Him
To soothe Him into my presence
In wails and in hushed whispers
With emotions and drama
So that He could come here
Just to have Him near

I lived omniabsent
To the reality of
The omnipresent God
He whose earth is
And the fullness thereof

Once a man woke up from a dream
Out in the wild
Where he laid his head on a stone
And it struck him really hard
“God was here and I was unawares,
This must be the house of God!”

Not in a cathedral
Not in a shrine
Not in a prayer closet
Not in a religious structure
Not in a fellowship
Just where he was

I have lived as if He was absent
Living far off in a distant land
In some space way way over there
Out of this world
Somewhere in some space there
Elsewhere

Wake me up Lord from this slumber
This deep unawareness
This gross unconsciousness
This blanketing darkness
This engulfing humanness
That lives far from you.

Bring me alive to you
Let the things of God
Touch this fleshy human
Attune me to your frequencies
Digitalize my analogue heart
Compound my simple eyes
Calibrate my fuzzy sight
Articulate your being within me
Amplify my hearing to your tones
And melodize my heartbeat
To the rhythms of your movements

Bring me alive to you
Encapsulate me into you
To live in you
To move in you
To have my being in you
Here and now
There and after
Ever present
With the Omnipresent God.

Would I Recognize Him?

Google Image
If I met Jesus
On my way to work,
Would I be too busy,
To recognize him,
Or would I hurriedly pass him by.

If Jesus sat next to me,
In the bus on my way home,
Would I be too tired to engage
Or would I plug in my earphones
And zone out?

If Jesus joined my table
During my lunch break,
Would I be quick to bless the food
Or would I be quick to welcome
And share my delicacies.

If Jesus wanted a heart to heart chat
Embodied in a house girl
Or the water delivery guy
Or even in the gate keeper,
Or the matatu tout,
Would I listen heartily
Or would I easily
Hand out a note
To free myself?

If Jesus gave me a hug
Through the street mother
Would I receive it
Or am I too clean to cling?

And what if Jesus came to Church
Came to the church I attend
One Sunday morning.
Would I recognize him
Or would I be quick to sing
To chant prayers and to read the bible
Would I be quick to close my eyes
Or quick to look around and see him?
Would my heart know it's Him?

Jesus you realize
How easily I could miss you
If you came like a thief
And indeed you do come
You come to me like a thief
In the night
And I have been unaware.

Help me Lord to know you
Help me Lord to feel you
Help me Lord to see you
So that when you come by
I will be aware.

I really wonder
Had the burning bush
Been burning all along
Before Moses became aware
Or did it just burn that one moment?

Did the ground become holy
For Moses' sandals
Or had it been holy all along?

Help me Lord to know you
Help me Lord to feel you
Help me Lord to see you
Make me aware of you
So that I will never miss you!

Do Be

Remind yourself to be and not just to do
Get yourself a to be list over your to do list
For it is better to become than to be-done

Are you not a human being,
And not a human doing?

At the end of it all
Who you have become
Will beat
What you have done.

TEXTPECTATION LAMENTATION

You looked at your phone
Waiting
Longing
Hoping
Expecting

Your phone rang
Your heart skipped
Your legs raced
You cleared your voice
Took a pose
Picked the call.

It was magical.

TIME

Your phone rings
You look at it sing
You look around
You mute the sound
You let it pass.

TEXT

In a meeting
Will call later
Can’t speak now
In a noisy place
You ignored

NEXT second

Your phone rings
You smile
You brighten up
You pick

NOW

It is clear
It’s me.

Of Beauty and Life

Why do we give flowers to the sick?
Why do we give flowers to those mourning?
Why do maidens love them this much?
Why do we adore our living rooms with flowers?

Will the sick take the flowers and get well?
Will the mourning wear them as cloths?
Will those in love have them for dinner?

Flowers are messengers
Messengers of Love,
Messengers of Hope,
Messengers of Comfort
Messengers of that which is to come
And so is beauty.

Beauty invites, capturing the soul of a man
Beauty nourishes, uniting our souls with the unseen
Beauty inspires, creating desires and spurring creativity
Beauty is transcendent, beyond the now

But who can find true beauty
The kind in a flower?

Only he
Who souls is ready
To stare at the beauty
And get captivated
The kind who rises
And indulges with the sun rise
The kind whose mind is set
To lay still and watch the sun set
Whose spirit has been liberated
By the beauty of the Lord
As he bows in worship
Before the majestic throne
To behold the beauty of the King
Who reigns in majesty
The one who is beauty
Beauty in every essence.
Beauty that is eternal
Beauty that brings life

Now and forever more
